I’ll Be Borrowing These Angel Wings- ICS16ALV

I never realized that I could do great things. I just wanted to be an author because I could write whatever I wanted, no one could tell me what to do, and it was fun. Then, it came to me.

I had been walking home alone, when I sensed something. It was a weird feeling. Like…something was about to happen. I looked behind me. Something was headed straight for me. It was a glowing golden light. After gawking for a minute, I ducked. After the dust from the crash let up, I saw a boy. He had a white robe, golden lining, a halo, and best of all…angel wings. I slowly walked towards him.

He was injured badly. I felt really bad for him. I actually didn’t care that he had angel wings. I just immediately thought that they were part of his costume. They looked really fluffy. Before I knew it, I was feeling them. But, as soon as my hands felt the silky, the fluffy feathers of his wings, they turned into light and vanished. I gave a small scream.

I was afraid to look. Out of the corner of my eye I could see something. I worried.  Something that was buried deep into my mind was true. Angel wings. Giant majestic angel wings. He was a real angel and I stole his wings. He gave a small sound that made me jump a little. He opened his eyes. “Girl…help…please, in the Lord’s name…” He said. I gasped. He sounded so weak. “W-W-What sh-should I d-d-d-do?” I cried. If you couldn’t tell, I was really nervous about talking to a nearly dead angel. Could angels die?

He looked down at his sword with his collapsing eyes. I guess he was an archangel. “Take my sword…the wings have given you power…defeat the demon known as Ryoji. The wings shall be your guide.” He said. His eyes finally closed. I was pale. Was he dead? It couldn’t be that easy to kill an angel. I touched his warm skin, and found that he was breathing. I sighed in relief. Wait, did he just tell me to kill an all powerful demon?

I picked up the sword. I was the kind of person that would get excited by this sort of unexpected event. I smiled. “Rest easy. Now, it’s time to do God’s work.” I said to myself.

I got up from the hard ground, and began to flap my wings. It was a little hard to control, but I got used to it. Then, I slowly, flew up from the ground. I smiled. My face was red.

This…is…so…COOL!, I thought. I flapped my wings, and started to fly all around. I even forgot that I had a job to do; or, was a substitute angel doing his job? Anyway, I flew all around town. I flew pretty close to some people, and they didn’t seem to notice me. Did having wings mean that I wasn’t visible for people to see, like an angel? Wait, but I could see that live archangel when he was falling. “I don’t want to think anymore, I’m getting a headache”, I thought.

Suddenly, something nearly hit me. It was an arrow shadow of some kind. I looked down. I felt an uneasy evil feeling coming from it. I looked the other direction, another shadow was on a roof of a building! I could tell that it had bat wings. Then, it started to run away, but I had to follow it. My wings flapped very fast, as I chased the mysterious figure, whom I assumed was the demon, and caught up to it at a school. My school. They were having a big basketball game there. The demon suddenly went into one of the boys that was participating. My heart dropped.

The boy began to be in a great deal of pain, and an aura developed and surrounded him. The clouds got dark and a lightning storm suddenly formed. The boy developed bat wings, his eyes glowed a menacing purple color. Everyone in the game, and in the audience began to flee, but he wouldn’t let them. He threw dark arrows at them, turning them to stone. At that moment, I came to a realization. He was possessing that boy.

I immediately swooped down, and saved a young child from a dark arrow. His mother was turned to stone. I put him down. By that point, he turned everyone that was in the vicinity was stone. I told the child to run back away, and hide until I came to get him. He nodded, with tears in his eyes.

I looked back at the demon, with anger in my eyes. He wickedly smirked at me. He was trying to get me mad. I flew towards him, with my sword, and went in for the kill, but he blocked it with his own darkness infested sword. I wasn’t sure if I should kill him, but I had a feeling that angels didn’t kill humans, only demons. So, I didn’t hesitate. One swing after another, he blocked them all. So, I tried even harder to defeat him. But, just as I thought that, he swung his sword at me, cutting a deep wound across my body. I hesitated at that moment which gave him an opening. I used my sword as a cane and slowly got back on my feet, but the demon was waiting for me.

His sword was at the side of my neck. “You know something? I watch a lot of super hero movies. You know what they all have in common?” I asked him. As I expected, he didn’t answer. “The ones with will always find a way.” I yelled. My wing and my sword were glowing in harmony with one another. I smirked. My wound healed as a result of the warm light. The possessed boy stepped backwards as though he was in pain.

I smiled. So, the light got brighter as my will got stronger. When I mixed it with certainty, determination, and confidence the light engulfed the both of us.  I could hear him yelling in pain and frustration. Then, I dimmed the light. It reacted to my thoughts of concern for the normal boy. I saw him. He looked like he did before he was possessed, and dropped to his knees. The demon fled.

I looked behind me to see that angel, whose wings I borrowed.

“Miki Aria. You have been chosen. Until I recover you shall keep your city safe. You are now a substitute angel.” He said. I blinked a few times.

So, I began to defeat demons from all over the city. The angels name was Paul, and he stayed with me until he got his angel powers back. It was fun. During the adventure, I wrote about all of my experiences as an angel. It came to me. This was my calling. The people who witnessed me at times called me the phantom angel. Apparently, people could see me if they have a certain gift, which many of them did.

This is my calling as the phantom angel…

St. Maria Goretti

Do you know who the youngest saint is? Maria Goretti, the youngest saint, was born in 1890. When she was twelve Her neighbor, Alessandro, tried to rape her. Instead of giving into sin, Maria said that she would rather die than submit. She died one day later after forgiving Alessandro. Alessandro went to jail for his sin. One day she appeared to him and he was filled with peace. I chose to write about Maria Goretti is because we share the same first name and we both lost our dads at age nine.

Maria Teresa Goretti was born in Corinaldo, Ancona, Italy on October 16, 1980 to Luigi Goretti and Assunta Carlini. She was the third out of seven children. The next day Maria was baptized in the church of San Francesco in Corinaldo. On October 4, 1896 she was confirmed by Mons. Giulio Boschi, Bishop of Senigallia and on June 16, 1901 Maria received her first Holy Communion in the church of Conca, today called Borgo Montello. On July 5, 1902, her life changed forever. Maria was sitting on her front porch mending a shirt when her eighteen year old neighbor, Alessandro, pulled her into his bedroom. When he pulled her inside he tried to rape her. Maria started screaming “No! It is a sin! God does not want it! You shall surely go to hell!” He tried to rape her again but this time she shouted that she would rather die than submit. Alessandro was prepared and pulled out a knife a stabbed her fourteen times. They hurried to take her to the hospital but it was too late. She lived for one more agonizing day. Maria dies at the age of twelve years, nine months, and twenty one days. The amazing thing was that she forgave her attacker, Alessandro. Right before she died her gaze fell upon a picture of the virgin Mary.

St. Maria’s family could never afford to send her to school so she never learned how to read or write. Even so she made the effort to walk to a school to study religion, walk back, and still make it in time to finish her chores. So when people heard that she would rather die than sin was amazing. The way that she put God before her own life is something even something people today struggle with. St. Maria Goretti is a role model for how to love god with all your mind, all your heart, and all your soul. Assunta, her mother, taught her to love God, to die rather than offend him. Assunta said “I taught her the fear of God and God did the rest”.

Alessandro went to jail for his sin. For six years he never repented. Then one day Maria, herself, appeared to him. The prison cell turned into a garden. She gathered lilies, the flower of purity. When Alessandro took each flower, each lily turned into a single white flame immediately after that Alessandro was filled with peace. He repented his sin and shamed himself for doing such evil things. When Alessandro was released from prison the first thing he did was to beg forgiveness of Assunta. She forgave him because if her daughter could forgive her murderer then she could to. On June 24, 1950 Maria was canonized. There was 250,000 people at her canonization including Alessandro and Assunta. Assunta became the only and first mother to be at the canonization of her own child.

Now do you know who the youngest saint is? Maria Goretti was an innocent 12 year old girl with a big heart full of love for God. She never learned how to read or write but made the effort to study to get her First Holy Communion. Maria knew will enough to love God more than her own life. Alessandro repented after Maria died and begged forgiveness. He attended her canonization with Maria’s mom.
